Software for a gaming venue lives in unusual conditions: it counts money, runs around the clock and is under constant attention — from inspectors and from people who would like to profit by it. So the technical choices were made for what survives those conditions, not for what is in fashion.
Client-server
All database work happens on the server. Workstations store no data — they display information and submit operations. Several practical consequences follow:
- A crash, a freeze or a power-down on the floor does not lose data.
- A workstation cannot be swapped out to alter the books — only the server accepts changes.
- There is one backup, made in one place, rather than on a dozen machines.
- Adding a workstation does not require moving the database.
Oracle database
The sportsbook system is built on Oracle. The choice follows from the nature of the load: simultaneous bet-taking across several points, recalculation of odds and report generation must not get in each other’s way.
Biometric identification
Login is by fingerprint. That removes the central problem with passwords and keys on a gaming floor — staff pass them around. Biometrics tie each operation unambiguously to a particular employee, which matters when a dispute has to be resolved.
AES-256 encryption
Data in the server tables is stored encrypted with AES-256 (Advanced Encryption Standard). The encryption is permanent: the contents of the database are closed not only in backups but on the disk of the running server. Secure storage therefore holds even on ordinary server hardware.
One database for the floor
The display writes winning numbers into the same database from which statistics calculate occurrence percentages and the management system derives table and shift results. Data is entered once, in one place.
Configuration instead of programming
Table layouts, chip denominations, contribution percentages, staff rights and report forms are all settings. Report templates are assembled without the developer — which matters when reporting requirements change.
